Job summary

Carmichael UK is looking for a competent Section Engineer to join a major project in Plymouth on a long-term basis. The successful candidate will manage the preparation of ‘as-built drawings’ and ensure effective systems for quality control and progress tracking are in place. Applicants should have a degree in civil engineering or equivalent, and relevant certifications (SSSTS, CSCS). Lodge allowance is available. Security clearance requirements mean candidates must have EU, NATO, or similar passports and UK residency for 5 years.

Job description

Carmichael UK are seeking a competent Section Engineer to join a major project in Plymouth on a long term basis.

Due to the site being a high Security base, additional security checks will need to be made – BPSS level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 4-6 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and have been a UK residence for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.

As a Section Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:

• Manage in the preparation of ‘as-built drawings’.
• Establishing effective systems to record work completed updating the Project Quality Plan accordingly.
• To manage in managing systems to enable the progress of work to be reviewed against time, quality, dimensions and quantity.
• Assist in the recording and testing of workmanship and materials, i.e., drainage, concrete, piling, brickwork etc.
• Provides engineering support to ensure technical problems are overcome and technical queries are answered.
• Responsible for setting out works constructed within allowable tolerances.
• Regularly checking the setting out points and benchmarks and checking that all setting out instruments and measuring equipment are delivered to site with a calibration certificate and recorded accordingly.
• Ensures workforce understand setting out information has been identified as suitable for the type of work being carried out.
• Manage the preparation of sketches for distribution on site, ensuring clear communication channels are in place for effective understanding.
• Responsible for providing and maintaining setting out and dimensional control, to ensure accurate construction of the work.
• Record instructions.
• Maintain drawing register.

Who are we looking for?

• Degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent is desirable – one or more of: BSc, BA, BEng, Meng, Eng, Tech, MICE, TIStructE, LCIBSE, LCIBSEEng Tech, Completion of Higher Apprenticeship.

• May be working towards Chartership/Incorporation with IStructE, ICE or other appropriate professional body.
