Overview

CarmichaelUK are recruiting for an experienced Section Engineer to join a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a major highways project in Gloucestershire. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team on one of the UK’s flagship highways projects.

We are seeking an engineer with strong technical capability across highways delivery, combined with proven experience in 3D modelling, or Civil 3D-based workflows to support construction, planning, and site coordination.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of major highways infrastructure across structures, earthworks, drainage, pavement, and temporary works packages.
• Produce, review, and interrogate 3D models (Civil 3D, BIM platforms, digital terrain models) for buildability, clash avoidance, and setting-out optimisation.
• Work closely with the engineering and delivery teams to ensure design intent is accurately translated to site.
• Manage subcontractors, monitor progress, and ensure works comply with design specifications and project standards.
• Lead on ITPs, QA documentation, WPPs, and daily engineering oversight.
• Coordinate with Temporary Works, design teams, and digital engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support sequencing.
• Maintain strong safety leadership and support H&S compliance across work packages.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Section Engineer on major highways or large civils schemes.
• Strong working knowledge of 3D modelling platforms (Civil 3D, BIM, Navisworks, digital engineering workflows, machine control models).
• Tier 1 contractor experience desirable.
• Strong understanding of highways specifications, construction sequencing, and QA processes.
• Ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate multiple engineering activities on site.
• CSCS essential; SMSTS / SSSTS preferred
