Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a Freelance Section Engineer to work on a Rail Project in Cardiff, Wales for 1 year plus. The role focuses on Civils with Buildings/Architecture elements and Rail experience is ideal but not essential. The rate is inside IR35, circa £450-£500 per day DOE.

You will manage site engineers and subcontractors, plan lookahead schedules, sign off ITPs, and ensure QA and RAMS compliance. Eligible to work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

• Rail experience on construction projects is beneficial.
• PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Technical Verification: ensure construction work matches drawings and specs, sign off ITPs.
• Health & Safety Leadership: write, review RAMS to maintain a safe site.
• Team Management: direct and mentor site engineers, subcontractors and labor.
• Short-Term Planning: create 2–4 week lookahead schedules and coordinate deliveries.
• Commercial & Reporting: resolve RFIs, maintain site records, report progress to PM and commercial teams.

Duties will include:

• Technical Verification: Ensure all construction work strictly adheres to design drawings and specifications, and sign off on Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Health & Safety Leadership: Write, review, and enforce Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) to maintain a safe working environment.
• Team Management: Direct, mentor, and allocate daily tasks to Site Engineers, subcontractors, and site labor.
• Short-Term Planning: Create and manage 2- to 4-week lookahead schedules and coordinate material deliveries to prevent delays.
• Commercial & Reporting: Resolve technical queries (RFIs), keep detailed site records, and report progress or variations to the project management and commercial teams.

Rate is inside IR35- Circa £450-£500 a day DOE
