Job description

If you enjoy supporting young people who need a bit of extra encouragement, and you’re at your best when the day brings a few surprises, this could be a brilliant next step for you.

We’re working with a welcoming SEN secondary school that supports pupils with a range of additional needs, from autism and communication differences to social, emotional and mental health needs. They’re looking for a Teaching Assistant who’s patient, positive and ready to help teenagers feel more confident in their learning.

What you’ll be doing
  • Supporting students in KS3 and KS4 during lessons, helping them stay focused and engaged
  • Breaking down tasks, explaining concepts and celebrating progress
  • Working 1:1 or in small groups, depending on the needs of each pupil
  • Helping young people develop routines, confidence and independence
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and specialists to keep strategies consistent
  • Bringing calm, encouragement and steady guidance to each day
What the school is looking for
  • Someone who builds relationships quickly and communicates with warmth
  • Confidence supporting young people with additional needs
  • Experience in schools, youth work, care, mentoring or behaviour support is a bonus
  • A flexible, patient approach and a good sense of humour when things go a bit sideways
  • You don’t need SEN experience to apply, just the right mindset and willingness to learn

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
