About this Role

Are you looking to develop your career in a thriving, friendly and supportive standalone academy where staff welfare is a priority? Are you passionate about your students and committed to unlocking their potential in an academy that has high expectations of everyone? If so, The Bishop of Winchester Academy wants you!

Due to relocation of the current postholder, we are seeking an inspirational Second of Science Teacher who has a clear understanding of how individuals absorb information and is dedicated to combining theoretical and practical learning, furthering our students in their lifelong journey of curiosity and love of knowledge.

We can offer you the opportunity to deliver a dynamic curriculum within our ambitious Science department that achieves exceptional outcomes from all year groups. Whatever your career stage, you will be supported to develop well-structured learning programmes and to enhance your teaching tool kit, so that our students are able to excel in becoming better scientists. So, whether you are looking to reinvigorate your engagement with the profession, or you are new to teaching and want to develop your talent, this is the ideal role and environment for you.

As a standalone academy, we believe in our teachers being able to do the role they are employed to do, which is to deliver engaging lessons to our students. We therefore have an easy and structured behaviour system for our students and you to follow in lessons. After this, we have dedicated teams who intervene and leave you to continue with the job you love doing!

Our Head of Science would be delighted to take you on a tour of the school and give you the opportunity to meet the department and answer any questions you may have.

As Second of Science, you will be welcomed into an experienced team of professionals to:

  • Progress the Science department to even greater successes
  • Assist the Head of Science with leading and mentoring the team
  • Collaborate with the Head of Science over learning to achieve a consistent and integrated methodology
  • Plan and deliver high quality and engaging lessons that will challenge and inspire our students
  • Encourage students to have high expectations of themselves and their behaviour
  • Be committed to the wider school community and development of students
  • Engage students in study at GCSE Level (Chemistry/A-Level is desirable)
  • Be a positive role model and supportive mentor to students, making a lasting impact on their lives

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is a thriving Church of England school, recently recognised by Ofsted as prioritising 'wider opportunities alongside achievement so that pupils "live life to the full."' (Ofsted 2023). Operating from recently refurbished facilities, our shared mission to improve the life chances of all of our students is at the very centre of our work.

We put the welfare of our staff at the heart of everything we do and can offer you:

  • Generous employer pension contribution at 28.6% basic salary from April 2024
  • Early Friday finish at 1:00pm
  • Supportive and practical marking policy
  • Career development with a bespoke CPD programme
  • Excellent newly refurbished teaching facilities with free onsite parking and good local public transport links
  • Employee Assistance Programme and Cycle to Work scheme
