Job summary

Barchester Healthcare Homes Limited is seeking a qualified Second Chef in Cardiff to craft nutritious, flavoursome menus for residents while supporting the Head Chef. You’ll balance hotel/restaurant standards with a warm, resident-centred approach, ensuring quality in every dish and a positive kitchen culture.

You will collaborate on menu development, manage stock and budgets, and uphold HACCP standards, contributing to high care ratings and a welcoming home environment.

Qualifications

  • Personable and warm approach focused on resident wellbeing.
  • Hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent.
  • Strong nutrition knowledge and menu planning.
  • Experience with fresh seasonal food.
  • Ability to create a welcoming environment in the home.
  • Confidence engaging residents to tailor menus.
  • Good understanding of HACCP.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
  • Assist Head Chef in menu development.
  • Prepare high-quality dishes using fresh produce.
  • Create a warm, efficient and fun kitchen environment.
  • Work within budget.
  • Complete regular audits.
  • Manage stock control.
