SCUK Capital Data Analyst Country: United Kingdom

Santander Consumer Finance UK (SCUK) is based in Redhill, Surrey and provides motor finance to a network of car dealerships throughout the United Kingdom.

We are now looking for an experienced Capital Data Analyst to join the finance team in this newly created role. This role involves coding data extraction (SAS, Python, SQL), automating processes, and ensuring CRR compliance for senior management and regulatory reporting.

As the technical expert you will be responsible for extracting, transforming, and reporting contract-level data from disparate source systems along with establishing the RWA reporting structure from inception to execution.

Please note this role is a hybrid role with at least 3 days a week in the Redhill office. Remote workers will not be considered.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Establish and maintain an efficient reporting network for the Capital team, requiring data production using various programming languages (SAS, Python, SQL) depending on the source systems
  • Extraction and treatment of capital database. Develop all reporting code from scratch, ensuring flexibility and adaptability to evolving requirements
  • Drive automation strategies to minimize reliance on manual End-User Computing (EUCs) within the team, enhancing overall efficiency and control
  • Investigate and manage data errorsraised during the month-end capital consumption process, collaborating with relevant teams to implement robust solutions
  • Parametrize statistical modelsfor loss given default (LGD) and probability of default (PD) provided by the Methodology team into corporate tools (Modellica) working with its specific coding language
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and management reporting and auditing requirements on the verification processes for internal (IVT) and external (PRA/ECB) validation. Implements specific policies or practices based on laws or regulations governing these practices
  • Prepare and analyse large datasetsabout the business portfolio for various internal and external projects aimed at improving capital consumption
  • Prepare presentations and reports for internal committees and Senior Management. Ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience
  • Ensure thorough and ongoing documentationof all input and report production processes, ensuring accuracy and facilitating effective team backups
  • Act as a backup for other team members as necessary, requiring a solid understanding of month-end financial analysis and CRR regulations
  • Collaborates with departmental associates and management. Promote best practices across the team through effective communication and collaboration
  • Adapts easily to changing work demands (month-end, system amendments, or new projects) which may require working beyond standard hours
  • Understanding of the necessity of moving forward with less than perfect information and ability to flexibly and comfortably adapt to changing work demands
  • Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner
  • Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection
What we’re looking for:
  • Programming Languages and demonstrable experience in data extraction and manipulation usingSAS,Python, andSQLis essential
  • Data extraction and manipulation: StrongMS Excelskills for quick analysis and reporting are essential
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g.,Tableau,Power BI)
  • Risk Modelling: Experience working in statistical models used for capital consumption (LGD, PD estimation)
  • Knowledge of national and international prudential normative: Strong understanding of theCapital Requirements Regulation (CRR), Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) and theBaselframework
  • Understanding of financial principles, accounting standards (IFRS), securitisation structures and risk management concepts will be highly valued
  • Knowledge of relevant banking regulations and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge/skills of financial analysis and tools pertaining to, corporate finance, capital markets, and credit rating methodologies
  • Demonstrable analytical knowledge/skills analysing financial data, to support build financial models, and to assist with interpretation of key metrics to inform strategic decisions
  • Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills to effectively present complex financial information to clients and stakeholders with diverse abilities
  • Demonstrable knowledge/skills of building and maintaining business relationships with clients and internal partners
  • Problem-solving: Aptitude for investigating discrepancies in datasets. Identify causes and propose solutions
  • Attention to detail: Ensure accuracy in data extraction, calculation and reporting
  • Teamwork: Share knowledge, provide reliable backup and embrace best practices
  • Communication & Adaptability: Adapt the level of detail of complex technical and regulatory information to diverse audiences. Perceive lack of audience comprehension; further simplifies explanation when needed
  • Initiative & Proactivity: Take ownership. Identify potential issues before becoming problems
  • Flexibility and Time management: Manage variable workloads, meet tight month end deadlines and adapt quickly to changes in regulatory requirements/systems updates
