Job description

Maximus is a global organisation that specialises in providing health and employment services to millions of people every year. Here in the UK we employ around 5,000 people across the country to deliver services that have a profound impact on people’s lives. From assessments and health services to employability programmes and specialist support, we do work that matters with people who care.

Role Summary
  • Enable one or more established, cross-functional technology delivery squads to deliver customer and business value predictably, transparently and sustainably, while maintaining appropriate focus on quality, security, and operational readiness.
  • Act as a leader, delivery coach and facilitator, helping squads establish effective agile ways of working, maintain a healthy flow of prioritised work, remove impediments and strengthen ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Provide accurate delivery visibility through agreed tooling, metrics, reporting and RAID disciplines, ensuring that work, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions and delivery forecasts are actively managed and appropriately escalated.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom at the time of application and be currently residing in the UK. Proof of eligibility to work in the United Kingdom will be required as part of the recruitment process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Facilitate effective Scrum ceremonies, coach squads in agile principles and behaviours, promote self-organisation and ownership, and help product owners and delivery teams maintain focus on customer and business value.
  • Identify, manage and remove delivery impediments, improve team flow and predictability, support capacity and release planning, coordinate cross-squad dependencies and help squads balance pace, quality, and operational resilience.
  • Mentor squad members, product owners and stakeholders in agile practices, facilitate collaborative problem-solving, challenge ineffective ways of working and ensure improvement actions arising from retrospectives, delivery data and feedback are owned and delivered.
  • Use appropriate deliver measures, including throughput, lead time, cycle time, work in progress, work-item ageing, predictability and defect trends to identify risks, improve squad performance and provide meaningful delivery dashboards and stakeholder insights.
  • Build strong relationships across technology and the wider Maximus organisation, translate delivery challenges into clear business impacts, communicate progress and dependencies effectively and facilitate informed planning, prioritisation and decision-making.
  • Promote DevOps, continuous-delivery, automation, customer-centred and outcome-based practices, support effective use of approved delivery platforms and encourage responsible adoption of AI-enabled productivity and collaboration tools where these provide measurable value.
  • Maintain accurate delivery information within the agreed platform as a single source of truth and ensure risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, blockers actions and decisions are recorded, assigned to accountable owners, regularly reviewed, clearly reported and escalated where required.
Essential skills
  • Proven experience working as a Scrum Master within an agile software, digital, product or technology delivery environment.
  • Strong understanding of Scrum, Kanban, Lean and iterative delivery principles.
  • Experience facilitating Scrum ceremonies, workshops, planning sessions and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ability to coach technical and non-technical colleagues in agile practices, team ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Experience identifying and resolving impediments and managing risks, issues and cross-team dependencies.
  • Ability to use delivery data and metrics to improve flow, predictability, quality and decision-making.
  • Experience using agile delivery platforms such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Rally or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, stakeholder-management and influencing skills.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced or complex delivery environment.
  • Good understanding of software delivery lifecycles, release planning, quality and operational readiness.
  • Experience supporting cloud, digital, software engineering or technology-transformation delivery.
  • Exposure to DevOps practices, continuous integration, continuous delivery and automation.
  • Experience operating across multiple squads or within a coordinated or scaled delivery environment.
  • Knowledge of value-stream management and flow efficiency techniques.
  • Experience working within a complex enterprise, healthcare, public-sector or regulated environment.
  • Experience contributing to agile communities of practice, delivery standards or coaching beyond a single squad.
  • Understanding of product-led, customer-centred and outcome-based delivery.
