Job summary

Medacs Healthcare is seeking a Locum Scrub Nurse for County Hospital, Stafford. This agency role offers hourly pay of £15.70 to £33.51 and requires HCPC or NMC registration with UK scrub experience. The position covers a range of theatre specialties and shifts from 08:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday.

Candidates must have 6 months UK operating theatre experience, be eligible to work in the UK, and demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills to support surgeons and the scrub team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating theatre, ensuring all surgical instruments, equipment, and materials are sterile, complete, and ready for use
• Support the surgical team by setting up instrument trays, checking equipment functionality, and maintaining a sterile environment throughout the procedure
• Directly assisting surgeons during operations by anticipating needs, passing instruments, handling specimens, and ensuring all items are accounted for
• Monitor the sterile field and respond quickly to any issues, such as equipment problems, breaks in sterility, or changes in the surgical workflow
• Ensure accurate surgical counts before, during, and after the procedure to maintain patient safety
• Support post-operative duties, including safe disposal of equipment, instrument decontamination, and documentation

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be part of a multi-skilled scrub team delivering safe, high-quality care across a range of surgical specialties, including:

• General Surgery

• Vascular

You will be:

Essential:

• HCPC or NMC Registration (RGN/ODP)

Desirable:

• Immediate Life Support (ILS) / Paediatric ILS
• Mentoring or teaching qualification
