Job description

Teaching Personnel are seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic SCLN Support Teaching Assistant on behalf of a primary school in the OL1 area. The successful candidate will support pupils with speech, communication and language needs, helping them to access learning, develop communication skills and build confidence in a nurturing school environment.

This role is ideal for someone with a passion for supporting children’s communication development and removing barriers to learning.

Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with speech, language and communication needs
  • Deliver speech and language programmes under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
  • Support pupils to develop expressive and receptive language skills
  • Use visual supports, communication aids and structured interventions
  • Encourage confidence in communication and positive social interaction
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, speech and language therapists and parents
  • Monitor, record and report pupil progress
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children with SCLN or additional needs (desirable)
  • A clear, calm communication style and excellent listening skills
  • Patience, empathy and a child-centred approach
  • An understanding of inclusive classroom practice
  • Relevant qualifications or training in speech and language support (desirable but not essential)
