Job description

The High Throughput Characterisation (HTC) team in Large Molecule Research (LMR) is seeking a Scientist in Biophysics based in Stevenage, UK. This role is a fixed‑term contract ending December 2026.

Large Molecule Research (LMR) is a department involved in the discovery of novel and effective medicines, progressing a portfolio of molecules from initial discovery, expression and characterisation to molecular engineering and biological and physicochemical profiling, and mechanistic understanding.

This lab‑based role employs state‑of‑the‑art SPR and label‑free binding technologies—as well as SEC, HIC, and DSF—to thoroughly characterize the biophysical properties of therapeutic molecules throughout the antibody discovery process. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, generating data critical to drug discovery, and should possess strong communication skills as well as experience in analysing extensive datasets and working with (multi‑specific) antibodies.

We offer a competitive salary, an annual bonus based on company performance, healthcare and wellbeing programmes, a pension plan membership, and shares and savings programmes.

In this role you will:
  • Plan and execute experiments to characterize protein‑protein interactions using techniques such as SPR, BLI, and other label‑free binding methods.
  • Assess biophysical properties of therapeutic molecules using techniques like SEC, HIC, and DSF.
  • Analyse and interpret experimental data to support therapeutic discovery campaigns.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to present findings and contribute to program progression.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and prepare scientific reports.
  • Stay updated on advancements in biophysical techniques and apply them to improve workflows.
Basic Qualifications & Skills:
  • PhD or equivalent in biophysics, biochemistry, protein analytics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with biophysical techniques such as SPR, BLI, SEC‑HPLC, HIC‑HPLC, or DSF.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Adaptability to learn new techniques and scientific areas quickly.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong team‑working skills and a proactive approach to collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience analysing and interpreting large and complex datasets.
  • Expertise in characterizing antibodies and multispecific antibodies using HPLC‑based techniques.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving abilities in experimental workflows.
  • Interest in data science and its application to biophysical research.
  • Experience with SPR for protein‑protein interaction analysis.
Closing Date for Applications:

30th October 2025
