Job description

To develop, evaluate, characterise and validate protein purification processes for monoclonal antibodies and other recombinant proteins and support the transfer of these processes to pilot and GMP scale.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and design own experiments with guidance from lead scientist.
  2. Responsible for the execution and delivery of own projects with particular attention to safety, quality, on time and right first time.
  3. Escalate technical issues in a timely fashion.
  4. Ensure that experimental details, raw data and results are recorded appropriately.
  5. Collate, analyse and evaluate data to produce good quality process information.
  6. Operate as part of a cross-functional project team.
  7. Prepare and deliver high quality presentations, protocols and reports.
  8. Ensure own training is up to date.
  9. Contribute to the efficient running of the laboratories.
Key Requirements:
  1. BSc / PhD in Biotechnology or in a relevant scientific discipline and appropriate laboratory experience.
  2. Theoretical knowledge of protein chemistry and protein purification.
  3. Strong practical laboratory skills.
  4. Practical experience with laboratory scale AKTA chromatography and ultrafiltration (TFF) systems.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Strong planning and organisational skills.
  7. IT proficient (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  8. Proficient in the use of Unicorn software.
Desirable:
  1. Knowledge of GLP / GMP.
  2. Experience of process transfer and scale up to cGMP manufacture.
  3. Knowledge of GAP analysis methodologies (e.g. FMEA, Cause and effect analysis).
  4. Experience of process characterisation / validation.
  5. Operational excellence (5S or similar) experience.

  2. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary/project team.
  3. Prioritise and manage own time effectively.
  4. Show initiative for problem solving and generating new ideas.
  5. Work independently to an agreed plan.
  6. Able to work with minimal supervision.
  7. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  8. Willingness to support other activities within the department.
