Qualifications

  • A degree level qualification or equivalent experience in a scientific discipline, OR experience in the water industry.
  • Able to interpret sample results and determine appropriate action according to regulatory requirements.
  • Awareness of current Water Quality Regulation legislation.

Job description

Working in the Water Quality Services Department, the purpose of this role is to carry out water quality investigations, audits, ground condition assessments, sample result analysis, and report on findings.

To support, and deputise in the absence of, the Operations Scientist Network, and ensure water quality is not impacted by any network activities.

What you’ll be doing
  • Ensure water quality complies with regulatory and operational values.
  • Deputise the Network Operations Scientist duties during absence.
  • Support the Network Operations Scientist in monitoring and improving water quality.
  • Conduct ground condition assessments for new developments and recommend suitable materials.
  • Investigate network water quality events and provide information to the Operations Scientist.
  • Conduct structured audits of network activities.
  • Carry out site specific studies to identify high risk water quality areas.
  • Respond to and investigate unusual results within a prescribed timescale.
  • Ensure required and relevant operational samples are taken.
  • Provide expert water quality advice and support to teams involved in operational activities.
  • Provide water quality training to community based teams.
What you need
  • A degree level qualification or equivalent experience in a scientific discipline, OR experience in the water industry.
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Able to interpret sample results and determine appropriate action according to regulatory requirements.
  • Awareness of current Water Quality Regulation legislation and requirements of company regulators.
  • Awareness of water production, supply and distribution and how this can impact upon water quality.
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, LIMS systems, and quickly learn internal software and apps. Essential
