Location: UK/Europe, Remote
Salary: £50,000 Basic
Our client, a leading Open Access publisher, requires a new Scientific Editor in digital health research / medical informatics.
Responsibilities
- Apply subject matter expertise to critically assess manuscripts for scientific rigor, methodological soundness, and overall quality and impact
- Provide clear, professional, and constructive feedback to authors and reviewers throughout the peer review process
- Work closely with journal editors and staff to support the publication of high-quality, open-access scientific research
- Make informed editorial decisions in a timely and efficient manner
- Champion robust, ethical, and transparent peer review practices
- Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of editorial board members
- Uphold the highest standards of publication ethics and scientific integrity
- Occasionally contribute editorial content, such as commentaries or opinion pieces, to support knowledge translation
Note: This role does not primarily involve copyediting or scientific/medical writing.
Qualifications/Education
- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in medical informatics, digital health, or a related field (e.g., public health, health services research)
- Candidates with an MSc or other relevant master's degree and strong applicable experience will also be considered
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated expertise as a researcher or academic clinician in medical informatics, digital health, or adjacent disciplines
- Solid understanding of biomedical statistics and health research methodologies involving human subjects
- Familiarity with quantitative methods (e.g., RCTs, cohort studies) and/or qualitative research approaches
- Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications
- Experience conducting high-quality peer reviews; prior editorial experience is a strong asset
- Awareness of current trends in scholarly publishing, including preprints, reporting standards, and ethical guidelines
