Job description

Seeking a Scientific Data Product Manager to support strategic initiatives within their Scientific Information & Intelligence function. This role plays a key part in shaping and executing the organisation’s data marketplace strategy, enabling researchers and digital teams to seamlessly access external scientific information critical for R&D, AI adoption, and enterprise analytics.

The Opportunity

You’ll drive the evolution of a next-generation scientific data marketplace, enabling high-quality, FAIR-aligned, reusable information assets for scientific and business users. You’ll champion user-driven design, modern data architecture principles, and AI readiness to ensure the organisation can fully leverage its licensed external information assets.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Product Leadership
  • Define and refine the vision for a scientific data marketplace supporting R&D and business operations.
  • Promote data mesh, data-as-a-product and data contract principles across the organisation.
  • Lead the stewardship of external published information datasets, ensuring high-quality, discoverable and compliant assets.
  • Evaluate and propose new technologies to optimise data access, usability, and interoperability.
User Engagement & Design
  • Partner with scientists and business users to understand workflows and information needs.
  • Ensure seamless access to external data sources, enhancing scientific discovery and digital operations.
  • Represent the data marketplace through demos, presentations, user feedback sessions and training.
Data Enablement & AI Readiness
  • Drive data quality, metadata excellence, semantic enrichment and interoperability.
  • Work closely with AI teams to ensure external data is ready for advanced analytics and LLM-based applications.
  • Collaborate on enterprise metadata standards, data models, domain alignment and onboarding pathways.
Technical & Professional Requirements
  • Strong expertise in information science, metadata, ontologies, scientific knowledge systems, and FAIR data principles.
  • Proven experience in product management, ideally for scientific, data, or digital products.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and cross-functional product delivery.
  • Understanding of LLMs, agentic AI, and emerging scientific data technologies.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and collaborative leadership skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving R&D data landscape.
