Job summary

A vibrant secondary school in the London Borough of Southwark is seeking an enthusiastic School Science Technician to prepare and maintain laboratory equipment for various science lessons. Are you an organised and enthusiastic Science Technician looking to support teaching and learning in a vibrant secondary school?

Our school in the London Borough of Southwark is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our successful Science Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with laboratory experience, a scientific background, or previous experience as a School Science Technician/Lab Assistant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, set up, and maintain laboratory equipment and resources for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics lessons.
  • Support teachers during practical sessions and ensure all experiments are carried out safely.
  • Maintain stock levels, order materials, and manage chemical and equipment inventories.
  • Ensure laboratories, prep rooms, and equipment are kept clean, organised, and compliant with health & safety regulations.
  • Assist with demonstrations, experiment preparation, and the safe disposal of materials.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs on lab equipment.
  • Work closely with the Science Department to support high-quality teaching and learning.
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience as a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician, School Lab Technician, or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety procedures, CLEAPSS guidance, and risk assessments.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • A science-related qualification (GCSEs, A-Levels or Degree in a STEM subject) is highly desirable.
  • Confident working with chemicals, lab equipment, and scientific apparatus.
