Job Title: Science Technician (Secondary School)
Location: Blackpool
Start Date: January 2026
Hours: 36 hours per week
Role & Responsibilities
- Preparing equipment, apparatus and resources for practical science lessons, demonstrations and experiments.
- Setting up and clearing away lab equipment and materials, ensuring teaching spaces are safe, organised and ready.
- Managing stock of consumables, chemicals and laboratory equipment; keeping accurate inventories and ordering/replacing items as required.
- Ensuring that equipment is maintained, cleaned and stored correctly; performing basic checks and flagging any faults or replacements needed.
- Supporting teachers and students during practical tasks when needed.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant health & safety regulations (including COSHH, waste disposal and safe storage of chemicals).
- Maintaining and updating technical records, risk assessments and safe operating procedures.
- Contributing to the overall organisation and smooth running of the Science Department.
Person Specification
- The successful candidate for the Science Technician role will ideally have proven experience of working in a laboratory or technical role (preferably within an educational setting) or a strong interest in moving into this type of work.
- Good knowledge of laboratory practices, equipment and basic maintenance.
- Awareness of health & safety standards, including safe handling of chemicals, risk assessments and disposal of waste.
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently under direction.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, pupils and other support staff.
- A positive, proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to changing requirements and work as part of a team.
