Teacher of Science
Location: Selby, North Yorkshire
Start Date: 2 nd June 2025
Contract Type: Temporary
Salary: £31650 – £49084 per annum

GSL Education is seeking to appoint a dedicated Teacher of Science for a reputable Secondary School in Selby, North Yorkshire. The position is due to commence on the 2 nd of June, and the ideal Teacher of Science will have full-time availability, however part-time will be considered for the right candidate.

You will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education to students aged 11–16, within a forward-thinking Science Faculty that consistently achieves results above the national average. The school offers a supportive environment, making it suitable for both Early Career Teachers and experienced teachers.

Teacher of Science Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, adhering to the school's schemes of work and national curriculum requirements.
  • Utilise students' prior attainment data to set future targets, mark and return work promptly, and carry out assessments in line with departmental and school policies.
  • Maintain excellent classroom management by following the school's behaviour policies, ensuring a purposeful learning atmosphere, and establishing a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Participate in the school's extensive CPD program, which includes a thorough induction for new staff.
  • Form Tutor responsibilities including monitoring and setting targets for students' social and academic progress and building positive relationships to support their overall development.
  • Engage in extracurricular activities, contribute to the wider life of the school, and collaborate with colleagues to enhance the educational experience for all students.

Teacher of Science Minimum Requirements:

  • Hold UK Qualified Teacher Status or QTLS and a relevant STEM Degree.
  • Have recent teaching experience at Key Stage 3 and GCSE level within the last 2 years. Placements will be counted for Early Career Teachers.
  • Be confidently able to plan, adapt and deliver Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons to students at different abilities.
  • Be able to provide 2 teaching references from the last 2 years. Placements can be referenced for Early Career Teachers.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
