Job description
Science Manufacturing Technician Apprentice

Closing date: 29 October 2025

Full‑time, Band 3 with progression to Band 4 after completion of the apprenticeship. The role offers professional registration with the Institute of Science and Technology and internal competency development.

Main duties
  • Participate in a programme of work‑based training and development across aseptic dispensing and manufacture in the Clinical Trials Aseptic Services Unit (CTASU).
  • Carry out day‑to‑day aseptic services in line with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
  • Support the preparation of clinical trial doses, including cytotoxics, epidurals, antibiotics, injectables and novel agents.
  • Maintain accurate product worksheets, label batch numbers, and ensure finished products are packed and delivered safely.
  • Assist with clean‑room/isolator cleaning rota, environmental monitoring, and equipment servicing.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekend, evening, bank holiday and seven‑day shifts in the early CTASU rota.
Learning and training
  • Complete the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing.
  • Undergo 20% off‑the‑job training and attend virtual college sessions.
  • Gain practical experience in CTASU, with short rotations into Radiopharmacy and Quality Assurance.
  • Maintain Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and adhere to CTASU standard operating procedures.
Qualifications and experience
  • BTEC Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent (willingness to undertake).
  • Previous NHS experience.
