Job summary

Huddersfield Grammar School is seeking an experienced Science Technician to support Years 7 to 11 by preparing and maintaining laboratories, equipment and resources, and delivering practical lessons safely and efficiently.

You will work closely with the Head of Science and staff to provide materials, assist pupils in experiments and demonstrations, and ensure high standards of health and safety, including COSHH compliance.

Qualifications

• At least 5 A*-C GCSEs including Maths, English and Science.
• A-Levels.
• NVQ2 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Manage storage and maintenance of science equipment in prep room and labs.
• Provide materials for lessons through liaison with staff.
• Assist pupils in practical lessons and carry out demonstrations.
• Prepare equipment and materials to ensure sufficient apparatus.
• Trial experiments prior to classes.
• Ensure correct storage and disposal of chemicals and waste.
• Keep equipment clean, safe and routinely tested.
• Clear and tidy workplaces after lessons.
• Photocopy for teaching staff as requested.
• Assist with displays within laboratories.
• Support extra-curricular science clubs.
• Lead on development of specialist resources and long-term projects.
• Manage stock control, orders, and records; monitor expenditure.
