Job summary

Outwood Academy Portland seeks a Senior Technician to lead laboratory technical services, prepare equipment for practical activities, and ensure COSHH and safety compliance across the labs. The role includes supervising other technicians and reporting to the Head of Science.

Candidates should hold a Level A2 Science qualification and COSHH/CLEAPSS-related credentials, with at least one year’s experience in a school curriculum setting.

Qualifications

• Essential communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency in standard ICT packages.
• Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and supervise others.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and guide Technician staff, monitor work quality and deployment.
• Ensure safety compliance, COSHH storage and disposal per H&S legislation.
• Monitor stock levels, compile inventories (COSHH related), and prepare laboratories daily.
• Report difficulties to the Head of Science and ensure equipment and materials are prepared for practical use.
