Job summary

Choice Teachers are seeking an experienced School Welfare Lead for a Central London secondary school. The role focuses on welfare, health and medical provision with direct first aid support and IHCP coordination.

The successful candidate will oversee daily welfare operations, liaise with parents and external healthcare professionals, and work closely with safeguarding and SEND teams. 36 hours weekly, term-time, in Central London.

Responsibilities

Choice Teachers are currently working with a large secondary school in Central London who are seeking an experienced School Welfare Lead, Welfare Officer, Student Welfare Officer or Medical Welfare Officer to take responsibility for the school's student welfare and medical provision.

This is a key school-based position supporting students with a range of health, medical and wellbeing needs. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day running of the welfare provision while providing direct first aid and medical support to students when required.

You will act as a central point of contact for students, parents, staff and external healthcare professionals, working closely with the school's safeguarding, pastoral and SEND teams.

About the School Welfare Lead Role

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the school's welfare and medical provision
• Provide first aid, medical and welfare support to students
• Assess and respond appropriately to illness, injury and medical incidents
• Manage the school's medical/welfare room
• Maintain accurate and confidential student medical records
• Oversee the safe storage, administration and monitoring of medication
• Coordinate support for students with ongoing or complex medical conditions
• Develop and review Individual Healthcare Plans (IHCPs)
• Liaise with parents, carers, healthcare professionals and external agencies
• Work closely with safeguarding, SEND, pastoral and senior leadership teams
• Support students with allergies and other identified healthcare requirements
• Ensure school welfare procedures comply with safeguarding and healthcare guidance
• Coordinate appropriate first aid and medical training for staff where required

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Have experience providing first aid, welfare or medical support
• Have experience working with children or young people
• Have experience supporting individuals with ongoing or complex medical needs
• Be confident managing a busy welfare or medical provision
• Be able to respond calmly and professionally to medical incidents and emergencies
• Have excellent organisation and record-keeping skills
• Understand safeguarding, confidentiality and information-sharing requirements
• Be confident communicating with parents, staff and external healthcare professionals
• Be willing to undertake additional specialist medical training where required
• Ideally have previous experience within a school or education setting
• A relevant healthcare, first aid, nursing, childcare or welfare qualification would be advantageous
