Job summary

School Shop Direct in Denbigh, Hull or Shrewsbury seeks a Shop Assistant to run a store day-to-day: serve families, keep the shop stocked and tidy, and ensure paid orders reach customers. You are the face of the brand in your town and will cover at other stores when needed.

The busiest period is mid-July to mid-September; outside these weeks, hours flex to match demand. Guaranteed minimum 3 days per week with extra days available as required.

Responsibilities

• Open and close the store on time, following security procedures
• Serve customers, help with sizing and fitting, and advise on each school's uniform requirements
• Handle enquiries, exchanges and refunds in line with company policy
• Resolve everyday customer issues and elevate complaints to the Area Supervisor
• Process in-store sales and customer orders accurately on the company system
• Track outstanding paid orders and keep customers updated on delivery or collection dates
• Prepare orders for collection and contact customers when they are ready
• Support pick, pack and dispatch of online and school orders when needed
• Receive deliveries and check them against paperwork
• Keep shelves, rails and stockroom organised and replenished
• Carry out stock takes and reconcile stock and orders on the system when asked
• Report low stock, shortages and damaged items to the Area Supervisor promptly
• Operate the till and card terminal; balance takings at the end of each day
• Follow cash-handling, banking and security procedures
• Keep the shop clean, safe and well presented
• Follow health and safety, fire and data protection procedures
• Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by management
