About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient School Support Worker to join our team, specifically working with pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Based at our inclusive school in Blackpool, you will play a crucial role in providing targeted support to help our students overcome barriers to learning, regulate their emotions, and achieve their full potential.

This role is highly rewarding and requires a patient, proactive, and compassionate individual who can form strong, positive relationships while maintaining clear, professional boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils exhibiting challenging behaviours, emotional difficulties, or anxiety.
• Assist in the planning and delivery of engaging activities, adapting materials to meet diverse needs and learning styles.
• Implement specific behaviour support plans (BSPs) and strategies to promote positive behaviour choices and self-regulation.
• Help pupils develop social skills, emotional literacy, and resilience through structured interventions and day-to-day interactions.
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and outside agencies (e.g., CAMHS) to ensure a cohesive approach to pupil well‑being and progress.
• Act as a key worker for specific pupils, monitoring their emotional development and academic attainment, and providing feedback to parents/carers.
• Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils in line with school policies.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• A strong understanding of the issues and barriers facing pupils with SEMH difficulties.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and effectively.
• The ability to remain calm and consistent in high‑pressure or challenging situations.
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures within a school environment.

Desirable (But not essential):

• Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or a qualification related to youth work, counselling, or psychology).
• Experience with specific intervention programs (e.g., Thrive, ELSA, Lego Therapy).
