Job Summary

Brighton and Hove Healthy Child Programme (5-19) have a vacancy for a band 5 School Staff Nurse to work term time only, across the Brighton & Hove area. Full time and part time hours will be considered between 22.5 - 37.5 hours per week and this can be negotiated.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse to work in our small and friendly service. We are committed to providing a high quality, accessible health service to children, young people and families, in partnership with other agencies and service providers.

You will need excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to use different communication methods. You will work as part of the team but will also need to use your time management skills to deliver care to your own caseload. Confident IT skills are also important for the role. Responsibilities
  • Work with the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) team to provide a child‑centred, inclusive, holistic and accessible public health programme to children, their families and communities.
  • Establish effective links with children, families, communities, statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Promote the physical and emotional wellbeing of children and young people, in order to establish good health for them now and in the future through early intervention, health promotion, advocacy, empowerment, social inclusion and the reduction of health inequalities.
  • Make referrals as appropriate enabling access to relevant professionals supporting children and young people to reach their health and developmental potential.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Active registration as a qualified Nurse on part 1 of the NMC register, or an NMC registered midwife
  • To hold or be willing to obtain Safeguarding Children Level 6 module

  • Evidence of academic study
Skills and Knowledge
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Proficient IT skills with the ability to learn and use new digital systems and ways of working.
  • Ability to draw information from a range of sources in order to make a contribution to service development.

  • Commitment to lifelong learning and development.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, clinical audit and clinical supervision and professional codes of conduct.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding children procedures.

  • Car driver with current driving licence and access to a car for work, unless under the Equality Act.
Experience
  • Experience working with children.
