Job summary

Vision for Education Ltd is seeking a School Sports Youth Worker in Wigan on a full-time, temporary basis. The role targets pupils with SEMH needs, using sport and activity to boost confidence, relationships and engagement.

The position supports students both in and outside the classroom, helping them develop life skills while building trust with staff and peers. Pay is via PAYE, at £475–£550 per week, with October 2026 start date.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally in education, sports coaching, youth work, mentoring or a community setting.
• Genuine interest in sport, physical activity and supporting young people.
• Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
• Confident building positive relationships with young people and encouraging those who may be disengaged or reluctant to participate.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable, with the ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting pupils with emotional or behavioural difficulties.
• Proactive and enthusiastic, with the personality to engage pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
• Right to work in the UK and able to provide two professional references.

The School and Role

A specialist school in Wigan is looking for an enthusiastic and resilient School Sports Youth Worker to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a background in sports coaching, youth work, PE, mentoring or community programmes who wants to take their experience into an education setting. You'll use sport and physical activity to help young people build confidence, develop positive relationships, improve emotional regulation and re-engage with education.

Working alongside teachers and support staff, you'll support pupils both in and outside the classroom, helping them manage challenges, develop life skills and make positive choices. You'll build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education and use your personality, patience and enthusiasm to encourage them to succeed.

With small class sizes and a supportive school environment, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's lives, while gaining valuable experience working with SEMH pupils.
