Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is seeking an experienced School Site Manager/Site Assistant to join a busy school environment in the Croydon area. The role requires maintaining a safe, secure, and well-presented learning space and may include early starts, evenings, and occasional weekend work to support events.

Responsibilities include day-to-day maintenance, safety checks, and coordinating with contractors, with a focus on keeping classrooms and outdoor areas safe and functional.

Qualifications

• Experience as School Site Manager, Caretaker, Premises Officer, or Site Assistant in a school setting.
• Strong knowledge of building maintenance and health & safety practices.
• Ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Flexible approach to working hours, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional weekends.
• Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Enhanced/Updating DBS via Update Service preferred.
• IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent health & safety qualification.
• Experience managing contractors and site projects.
• Basic plumbing, electrical, decorating, or carpentry skills.
• Knowledge of school compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day maintenance, minor repairs, and general handyman duties.
• Monitor and maintain school buildings, grounds, and facilities to a high standard.
• Conduct regular health and safety inspections around the site.
• Ensure classrooms, communal areas, and outdoor spaces remain safe and operational.
• Liaise with contractors and monitor their work when on-site.
• Open and secure the school premises daily and respond to alarms.
• Monitor site security and manage visitor access.
• Maintain outdoor areas, car parks, and sports facilities.
• Assist with setting up halls, classrooms, and event spaces.
• Support school events like parents evenings, exams, productions, and sports.
