Job summary

An Outstanding Secondary School in Chelmsford is seeking a practical, organised Science Technician to join its well-established Science Department. You will work closely with teachers to ensure laboratories are prepared and practical lessons can be delivered safely and effectively.

The role involves preparing equipment, maintaining resources, stock checks, and assisting with demonstrations across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics while upholding health and safety procedures in a busy school

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a laboratory, school, scientific, or technical environment.
• Good understanding of laboratory safety and COSHH is beneficial.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Practical experience handling scientific equipment and resources.

Responsibilities

• Prepare equipment, chemicals, apparatus, and resources for practical science lessons.
• Set up and clear laboratories before and after practical activities.
• Support teachers with demonstrations, experiments, and investigations.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering science resources.
• Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance of equipment.
• Follow health and safety procedures when handling chemicals and equipment.
• Report damaged or faulty equipment promptly.
