Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a School Premises Manager in Shefford, Bedfordshire to oversee day-to-day repairs and scheduled maintenance at the school site. You will open and close the school, monitor heating, lighting and water systems, and coordinate contractors to uphold safety standards.

Strong communication, reliability and flexibility are essential as you may support site logistics, perform safety checks, and provide cover at other schools within the project.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the school each day, ensuring buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and ready for use.
  • Conduct daily checks on heating, lighting, and hot water systems to ensure full functionality.
  • Carry out minor repairs, make safe any hazards, and report urgent faults.
  • Liaising with contractors and monitoring compliance with health and safety procedures and high standards across the site.
  • Keep outdoor areas clean and tidy, including litter picking and emptying external bins as well as clearing snow or ice as required.
  • Support general porting duties including the movement of furniture, and the receipt of and delivery of goods.
  • Conduct routine health and safety checks, including fire systems, emergency lighting, fire appliances, and water systems, and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide support for third-party lettings, and emergency responses outside normal hours, including weekends.
  • Provide cover at other schools across the project during staff absence or holidays.

Title: School Premises Manager

Location: Shefford, Bedfordshire

An opportunity has arisen for a School Premises Manager to join the team at Galliford Try within our Facilities Management business unit

As School Premises Manager you will be responsible for the overall provision of day‑to‑day repairs for the school site, including planned protective maintenance (PPMs).

What you will be doing:
  • Open and close the school each day, ensuring buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and ready for use.

  • Conduct daily checks on heating, lighting, and hot water systems to ensure full functionality.

  • Carry out minor repairs, make safe any hazards, and report urgent faults.

  • Liaising with contractors and monitoring compliance with health and safety procedures and high standards across the site
