The role of the School Health Nurse is to work within the 0-16 Children and Families Team to deliver the Healthy Child Programme to children, young people and families across Southampton. The post holder will assess health needs, provide evidence-based interventions, promote health and wellbeing, safeguard children and young people, and work collaboratively with partner agencies to improve outcomes.
The School Nursing team works with children and young people that attend an educational setting or live in the city of Southampton, and care is delivered across a variety of settings including schools, community settings and family homes. We work closely with other services and professionals to safeguard and ensure the best outcomes for children and their families.
We are looking for motivated practitioners to support the Public Health Nursing Service in Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust. You will be working with us to promote the health and wellbeing of children & young people aged 5-16 years and their families in schools, homes and community settings. You will be providing assessment of health needs and targeted interventions. The ability to drive and have access to a car is essential.
Ideal, but not essential: experience working in school nursing services previously and experience in offering a range of health and development reviews, screening tests, immunisations, health promotion guidance and tailored support for children and families, with additional support when they need it.
We are passionate about staff development, and we would support the right candidate to undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) course in School Nursing which is offered in the Trust.
