Job summary

Kelvinside Academy in Glasgow is seeking an Assistant Janitor to join the Estates and Facilities team. This full-time role (40 hours) involves early mornings, evenings and weekends, covering a shift pattern to maintain a safe, clean and well‑maintained school environment.

You will perform routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and practical support duties to ensure pupils, staff and visitors experience secure facilities while supporting day-to-day operations and events.

Qualifications

• Practical approach to routine maintenance and problem-solving.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and respond to changing requirements.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Full, clean driving licence to operate school vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the school buildings and grounds in a clean, safe, tidy condition.
• Undertake routine maintenance and minor repairs to support upkeep.
• Carry out checks of buildings, grounds and equipment; report hazards or issues.
• Assist with opening/closing of buildings and responding to alarms.
• Move furniture and resources for events; set up/down rooms and equipment.
• Receive, sort and distribute internal mail and deliveries.
• Requisition cleaning materials and maintenance supplies through agreed processes.
• Provide support to teaching and support staff in relation to facilities use.
