Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a school crossing patrol to assist children and pedestrians on their journeys to and from school during term time at Aylestone Hill in Hereford.

The role covers a fixed-term period from September 2026 to July 2028, with two hours per day (08:00–09:00 and 15:00–16:00) and on-site training plus a uniform provided. Salary is £13.28–£13.49 per hour, paid monthly.

The Role

Herefordshire Council are seeking a school crossing patrol to assist children and pedestrians on their journeys to and from school during term time at Aylestone Hill in Hereford.

What will you be doing?

Managing a crossing site located on A465 at Aylestone Hill, Hereford at fixed duty times, during term time.

Two hours per day 0800 – 0900 and 1500-1600. Term time only

This is a fixed term vacancy from September 2026 to July 2028.

Full on-site training and uniform will be provided

About You

As a school crossing patrol you will:

Have a high degree of safety observation and situational awareness

Be reliable and punctual

Have clear and confident communication skills with pedestrians, drivers and road users

Have good mobility, good eyesight and hearing to enable safe movement in and out of the road

Eyesight and hearing correction is acceptable

Be comfortable working and standing outdoors in all weathers for prolonged periods

Be able to confidently manage pedestrians and traffic in a busy, challenging environment

The role requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate which will form part of the recruitment process for the successful candidate

We Offer

Salary range starting at £13.28 rising to £13.49 per hour.

Pay is spread equally over 12 months to ensure you receive regular pay

Leave entitlement is included within the pay calculation. Statutory entitlement to annual leave will coincide with school holidays, there is no entitlement to take leave during duty hours
