Job summary

Castle Education is seeking a reliable School Cook for a primary school on the outskirts of York. The role involves preparing and serving meals for pupils and staff, with a focus on safe, hygienic food preparation and allergy awareness.

You will work approximately 6 hours per day and the school will be flexible with start and finish times. DBS Enhanced on Update Service is required. Start date ASAP. Previous catering experience is preferred.

Castle Education are working closely with a small village primary school, on the outskirts of york, who are looking for a reliable School Cook to join their team as soon as possible.

The Role

As a School Cook, you will:

• Prepare and serve meals for pupils and staff
• Take responsibility for safe and hygienic food preparation
• Be mindful of food allergies and dietary requirements
• Manage your time effectively to ensure meals are prepared and served on time
• Work independently and use your own initiative
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment
• Work as part of the wider school team to support pupils and staff

The role is approximately 6 hours per day, with the school happy to be flexible around start and finish times.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has experience in food preparation or catering
• Holds, or is willing to obtain, a Food Hygiene Certificate
• Understands the importance of food safety and allergy awareness
• Has excellent time management and organisation skills
• Can work independently and take initiative
• Is reliable, responsible and confident managing their own workload
