Job description

Working for The Leys & St Faith’s Schools Foundation

The Leys & St Faith’s Foundation welcomes applications for the role of Chaplain, to join our school community in September 2027.

The Chaplain has overall responsibility, under the Head, for the spiritual life, wellbeing and development of The Leys School and St Faith’s School communities. Rooted in our Methodist foundation, the Chaplain plays a central role in nurturing a school culture characterised by reflection, compassion, justice and hope.

The appointment is made to an ordained minister for an initial period of five years. The Chaplain is directly responsible to the Head of The Leys School and works closely with the Head of St Faith’s School. In respect of ministerial duties, the chaplain works under the overall direction and guidance of the Chair of the Methodist District.

The Chaplain serves the whole community as a listener, encourager, guide and minister. The Chaplain is expected to play a full and active part in the wider curricular life of the school, potentially through some classroom teaching. However, applications are welcome from candidates either with or without teaching experience.

About the Foundation

St Faith’s provides an inspiring and academically rigorous day school education for girls and boys aged 3 to 13, with a broad and balanced curriculum. We equip pupils for diverse and meaningful futures through our tailored approach to education, with an emphasis on inclusivity and social responsibility. We value kindness and we understand that happy children fulfil their potential. Our academic provision is underpinned by 8 key Learning Habits and excellent pastoral care. We have a Christian ethos and welcome families of all faiths and beliefs. We are proud to be part of The Leys and St Faith’s Foundation.

The Leys is an inclusive and inspiring co-educational boarding and day school offering an incredible learning environment and pupil experience in Cambridge. Putting pupils at the heart of everything we do, our shared values create a strong, caring, and cohesive community. The successful candidate will be joining a dedicated, successful, and welcoming team of teaching and business professionals, committed to working together to combine their skills, experience, and insights to deliver an excellent education to our pupils.

Our schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Before appointment to any role in the school, checks including an Enhanced DBS Check and workplace references will be undertaken in accordance with current statutory guidance.

The Foundation is committed to fostering an inclusive culture that promotes and values diversity and celebrates the diverse voice of our community.

This role has the opportunity for regular contact with pupils and therefore is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
