Job summary

Zest Education in Birmingham is seeking a caretaking/maintenance operative to support daily site upkeep and safety at a school. The temporary supply role starts ASAP with hours Monday to Friday, 10:30am to 6:15pm, and will suit someone with hands-on facilities experience.

You will work under health and safety requirements (COSHH, Manual Handling), hold an Enhanced DBS, and be flexible and self-motivated. You will act as a keyholder, perform checks, and assist with events and contractor liaison.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of working in a caretaking or maintenance role.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements such as COSHH and Manual Handling.
  • An Enhanced DBS Check (or willingness to complete one).
  • A flexible and self-motivated attitude.

Responsibilities

  • General upkeep, maintenance and safety of the school premises.
  • Carrying out statutory testing and checks on a regular basis, such as fire alarms, fire extinguishers, fire safety, meter readings and water checks.
  • Act as a keyholder, locking up site, securing windows, doors, gates and alarms.
  • Ensuring hazards are dealt with immediately wherever possible.
  • Communicating with and escorting contractors on site.
  • Assist the Grounds Person with cutting and treating of lawns and onsite playing fields.
  • Assisting with preparation for school or lettings events, moving chairs and erecting staging.
