Job summary

The Forum Centre, part of Dorset Council, is seeking a reliable School Caretaker/Handyperson to support the Site Manager across multiple sites in Blandford Forum. You will maintain buildings, carry out safety checks and supervise contractors to ensure a safe, well‑kept environment for pupils and staff.

Full-time, term-time role (37 hours/week, 39 weeks/year) with a competitive pay scale; salary ranges £22,455–£23,548 per annum, Grade 6.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in maintenance, caretaking or related field.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.
• Good communication and basic IT competence.
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine and planned maintenance, minor repairs and upkeep across school sites.
• Conduct health and safety compliance checks and keep records.
• Perform inspection and maintenance tasks within role scope.
• Supervise visits by contractors and ensure standards are met.
• Assist with site security, opening/locking as required.
• Monitor stock levels of maintenance materials and request replenishment.
• Help set up school areas for events or activities.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritise tasks.
• Be available for emergency call-outs outside normal hours.
