Job summary

Polaris Education in Kinver, Stourbridge, is seeking a School Caretaker to maintain a safe, clean and secure environment for pupils aged 5–16 with complex needs. The role covers building and grounds maintenance, security, and daily operations during a 37.5-hour week.

The successful candidate will join a supportive team, enjoy 30 days’ leave (35 with service), a company pension, life assurance, an Employee Discount Scheme, and a Medical Cash Plan.

Qualifications

• Previous property maintenance or caretaking experience in a school setting.
• Experience with building maintenance and minor repairs.
• Security experience including alarm systems.
• Good knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Basic DIY skills for maintenance tasks.
• Strong interpersonal skills with contractors and visitors.
• Solid literacy and numeracy abilities.
• Ability to work with children and young people with SEMH needs.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean, safe and secure school premises and grounds.
• Carry out cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment and minor repairs.
• Supervise cleaning staff and promote health and safety.
• Conduct porterage, move furniture and arrange disposal of waste.
• Manage security, lock/unlock, and check alarms and CCTV.
• Coordinate larger repairs with contractors and obtain quotes.
• Record health and safety checks, including Legionella risk.
• Provide safe access during cold weather and ensure premises safety.
