Job summary

LHH is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join the SDP Data & Integration team in Reading. The role focuses on designing, implementing and governing enterprise data platforms for Defence and Aerospace programmes, with emphasis on secure, scalable data solutions.

You will drive DataOps adoption, cloud-native architectures and collaborations with architects, engineers and stakeholders to deliver data-driven outcomes within highly regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Active SC Clearance.
• Experience delivering data solutions within MOD/Defence Digital or similarly regulated environments.
• Minimum 7 years in Data Engineering or related disciplines.
• Strong expertise in enterprise-scale data architectures and cloud data platforms.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, Spark and modern data processing frameworks.
• Experience with DataOps, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and IaC.
• Knowledge of data modelling, warehousing, MDM and data governance.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain secure, scalable enterprise data architectures and platforms.
• Lead development of data pipelines, integration frameworks and data products.
• Establish data engineering standards, patterns and best practices.
• Drive cloud-native data services adoption and platform modernization.
• Support data platform modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
• Ensure platform reliability, performance and scalability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring across data teams.
• Align data initiatives with programme objectives and stakeholders.
• Support advanced analytics, AI and ML capabilities.
