Job summary

Sanderson Government and Defence is actively seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer with active SC clearance to lead secure cloud initiatives across defence and government programmes. You will design, build, and operate cloud-first platforms, mentor engineers, and drive DevSecOps best practices in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.

The role requires hands-on delivery leadership, strong cloud and security expertise, and a proactive approach to engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience delivering production-grade cloud solutions within complex enterprise or secure environments.
• Strong experience in DevSecOps and Zero Trust Architecture principles.
• Proven experience deploying and operating infrastructure, platforms, and applications across AWS and hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, ECS, EKS, AKS).
• Experience with Kafka and Apache Flink for distributed streaming.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, build, testing, and deployment of secure cloud-based infrastructure and applications using modern DevOps and DevSecOps methodologies.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and IaC solutions to enable automated deployments.
• Build and operate secure cloud environments supporting data platforms and analytics workloads.
• Contribute to automated testing frameworks to ensure quality across the lifecycle.
• Maintain deployment scripts and tooling in line with evolving requirements.
• Support setup, maintenance, and optimisation of development, test, and production environments.
• Provide production support through incident investigation and root-cause analysis.
