Job summary

A leading energy consultancy seeks an experienced Data Architect to define and document a target data architecture for a public sector project. The contract starts at £650-700 per day, operating in a hybrid environment with occasional on-site visits.

Data Architect | Target Architecture | Public Sector | SC Cleared | Contract Solution Architecture | TOGAF | Data Strategy | 3-Tier Design | Outside IR35

SR2 is supporting a consultancy partner working with a public sector department on a critical piece of architecture work that will help shape their target data and analytics landscape. We’re looking for an experienced Data Architect with a strong background in solution and enterprise architecture, capable of operating autonomously and delivering structure and clarity in a complex environment.

You’ll play a key role in documenting, refining, and extending the target architecture, ensuring that current and planned initiatives align with the future vision — and identifying what needs to change to get there.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and document a target data architecture, building on existing design work and thinking
• Develop detailed architecture artefacts that describe how current and future initiatives fit into the roadmap
• Identify gaps, dependencies, and required changes to enable transformation
• Provide input into overall solution and enterprise architecture design across related workstreams
• Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders and architecture boards
• Ensure all artefacts and models align with the department governance and security standards

Skills & Experience Required

• Strong experience as a Data Architect, ideally with strong defence/public sector experience.
• Proven understanding of 3-tier architecture design and data analytics integration
• Skilled in solution and enterprise architecture, able to move between detail and strategy
• Experienced in documenting architecture artefacts, roadmaps, and governance processes
• TOGAF certification (or equivalent experience) highly desirable
• Comfortable working with minimal supervision in fast-paced, high-stakes environments
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for stakeholder engagement

The Details

• Contract: Initial 3 months
• Rate: £650-700p/d - outside IR35
• Start: ASAP
• Location: Hybrid – occasional on‑site visits.
