This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term post, offering an excellent opportunity to work within a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality mental health care within a busy acute hospital environment. The post holder will work closely with Consultant Psychiatrists, junior doctors, and the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide timely psychiatric assessment and intervention for patients presenting with mental health needs within:

  • Acute medical inpatient wards

You will play a key role in supporting safe, effective clinical decision-making at the acute-mental health interface, ensuring patients receive the right care in the right setting.

What We Offer
  • A supportive and experienced Liaison Psychiatry team with strong clinical and MDT leadership
  • Exposure to a broad range of acute psychiatric presentations across the lifespan
  • Opportunities to contribute to service development and quality improvement within liaison psychiatry
  • Provide medical and psychiatric input to the Mental Health Liaison Team for patients presenting to the Emergency Department and acute inpatient wards at PRUH.
  • Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments, formulate treatment and risk management plans, and provide guidance on appropriate pharmacological interventions.
  • Ensure a timely and effective medical response to referrals made to the Liaison Team, working in line with service priorities and national standards.
  • Act as a Section 12-approved clinician, undertaking Mental Health Act assessments within Emergency Department and inpatient settings where required.
  • Contribute to, and where appropriate lead, clinical decision-making around discharge pathways, including: Referral to Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams
  • Recommendation for admission to mental health inpatient services
  • Work collaboratively with acute hospital staff and community mental health services to support safe transitions of care.

This role is ideal for an SAS doctor with SEC 12 approved seeking to further develop their experience in liaison psychiatry, acute mental health care, and multidisciplinary working within an acute hospital setting.
