Sales and Commercial Director / Deputy Managing Director

Lead commercial growth and transformation as an experienced B2B sales leader, driving strategy, account management and business development across manufacturing and distribution. Oversee revenue, margin and CRM-led performance in a modern, customer-focused team within a well-established UK SME.

SALARY: £70,000 to £80,000 per annum + Opportunity to earn 30% Bonus + Benefits

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Sales and Commercial Director / Deputy Managing Director to lead the company’s commercial transformation, rebuild capability, and deliver profitable growth. This well-established business, based in Daventry, Northamptonshire, operates with approximately 40 employees and a £12 million turnover. As a Sales and Commercial Director / Deputy Managing Director you will oversee sales, marketing and commercial operations — combining strategic insight with hands-on leadership to build a customer‑focused, results‑driven team.

The Sales and Commercial Director / Deputy Managing Director will play a pivotal role in shaping business direction, modernising systems and driving sales performance while deputising for the Managing Director to ensure strategic alignment and continuity.

DUTIES
  • Lead Commercial Strategy: Deliver a growth-focused sales plan that increases market share, profitability and customer reach
  • Transform Sales Culture: Build an accountable, motivated sales and customer service team with a mix of new business hunters and relationship farmers
  • Drive Financial Discipline: Oversee pricing, margin and P&L control to ensure commercial sustainability
  • Develop Key Partnerships: Strengthen supplier and customer relationships to drive value and reliability
  • Implement Change: Introduce CRM systems and data-led decision-making to modernise commercial operations
  • Shape Business Direction: Act as Deputy Managing Director, supporting strategic planning and long-term performance goals

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven commercial leadership background in manufacturing, distribution or similar B2B environments
  • Experience of delivering transformation and growth within an established organisation
  • Strong financial and P&L management capability with a focus on profitability and cash control
  • Excellent relationship management and negotiation skills with customers and suppliers
  • Digitally aware and confident using CRM, data and analytics for visibility and control
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence, motivate and inspire teams through change
  • Decisive and resilient leader with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
