Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled General Practitioner to join our friendly team with a minimum of one year experience working independently in UK general practice. The role requires a recognised and appropriate qualification (medical degree with valid registration as a General Practitioner), the ability to work in the UK, good written and oral English, a valid UK driving licence and the capacity for regular home visits. Candidates should be enthusiastic, driven, flexible and eager to extend their knowledge, particularly in respiratory medicine or willing to train in this area.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of one year experience working independently in UK general practice
- Medical degree with valid registration as a General Practitioner
- Valid UK registration and driving licence
- Good written and oral English, confident communication with patients and the wider healthcare network
- Carer with daily vehicle use, able to conduct home visits
- Enthusiasm and drive to be part of a thriving GP dispensing practice (96% dispensing population)
- Flexibility and adaptability to the changing face of primary care
- Interest or specialism in respiratory medicine, or willingness to train in this area
- Willingness to work closely with the other salaried GP for holiday cover and to cover other sessions as required
- Great sense of humour and exemplary team‑work ethic
Responsibilities
- Provide in‑person surgery consultations, telephone and online consults, and queries in a timely manner in line with GMS contract requirements
- Check and sign scripts, manage paperwork, correspondence, Docman and EMIS tasks
- Make professional, autonomous decisions regarding patient care, including prescribing where appropriate and within formulary guidelines
- Assess healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems; treat long‑term conditions and develop shared healthcare plans
- Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with practice policy and guidance
- Proactively screen patients for disease risk factors, early signs of illness and support healthcare programmes, including audits and local initiatives
- Provide counselling and health education where appropriate
- Support trainees and other team members, contributing to smooth practice operation, governance, training, financial management and HR matters
- Assume responsibility for specific QOF, NNDP and other contractual areas of the practice
- Ensure compliance with appraisal and revalidation, committing to self‑learning and continual professional development
- Assist in the formulation of practice policies and procedures, encouraging adherence among colleagues
- Participate in the review of significant events and near‑misses using structured approaches such as root cause analysis
- Carry out additional duties as agreed, including local initiatives, practice audits and patient care enhancement projects

Qualifications – Essential
- Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
- Annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate)
- General practice (Vocational Training Scheme) trained
- On the medical performing list
- Enhanced DBS check
- Current CPR certificate
- UK work permit (if required)
- Medical defence union cover
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Fluent level of spoken and written English
Qualifications – Desirable
- GPwSI or other special interest qualification – respiratory medicine
