Job description

St Giles Surgery has been establish in Camberwell for over30 years. The team moved to a purpose built premises which are shared with ourneighbouring practice Brunswick Park.Many patients have been registered with us since the onset. We arepatient focused and always try to offer the best possible patient care withinour control. The whole team is passionate about making a difference for ourpatients and improving local population health and living.

Our list has grown significantly over the years and hascontinued to grow. We regularly review our catchment area, ensuring we areinclusive and offering services to our immediate population.

We also offer many additional services and are always keento pilot any new service that could benefit our local population. We workclosely with our federation and are active within our Primary Care Network. Wetry to host as many services as possible as we believe having the servicesin-house, enables our patients to feel comfortable accessing the range ofprofessionals available. We currently offer appointments with: Mental HealthPractitioner, Wellbeing Coach, Social Prescriber, First Contact Physio and aCare Coordinator. In addition to this we have two PCN pharmacists as well as anemployed pharmacists supporting the clinical team and patients with medicationqueries, compliance and monitoring. Inaddition to the help and guidance we provide to our own colleagues, we are atraining practice and regularly host trainee placements.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities:

Responding to medical problems presented by patients on the practicemedical list, including history taking, examination, investigation, diagnosis,treatment and referral where appropriate.

Establishing appropriate systems to manage common chronicmedical conditions, e.g. asthma and diabetes.

Providing appropriate preventative health care and advicewithin the context of primary health care.

Maintaining patients clinical records, to include correctproblem titles, coding of appropriate values (e.g. BP), coding of appropriatevalues associated with chronic LTCs in line with QoF and correct use oftemplates. Guidelines attached regarding expected standard to be followed.

Maintaining patients confidentiality.

Providing free certification in line with schedule 9 of theGMS Regulations (1992).

We are located in Camberwell which is an up-and-comingresidential neighbourhood with a good community feel. We have been in ourexisting building for 30 years and feel like an important part of ourcommunity.

We have 2 partners 2 GPs and a Practice Manager. Some of ourstaff has been with us for many years, with quite a few through to retirement.Prioritising staff welfare is a very important part of our values and mission,as looking after our own enables us to be stronger to look after our patients.As part of St Giles Surgery, you will provide NHS primaryhealth care to patients registered with the practice. This will also include anequal share of the paperwork, prescriptions, medication reviews, results,medical reports (as appropriate), and visiting patients at their home if andwhen appropriate. You are expected to participate in practice activitiesincluding meetings and audits, as well as taking on a role in the developmentof the practice as outlined in your contract.

Other Responsibilities:

Attending or chairing primary health care meetings and othermeetings as may be necessary.

Auditing practice activities as required.

Following practice and local guidelines and protocols

Taking part in the development and implementation ofPractice Development Plan.

Clinically related administrative and non-clinical dutiesneeded for the delivery of primary care services.

Engaging in appropriate educational activity in order tomaintain clinical and managerial competence and performance.

On days where PLT are held, the practice will be closed andclinicians are expected to attend the sessions but to return to the surgery fora shortened clinic and an equal share of admin.

having obtained the Certificate of Experience from the JointCommittee on Postgraduate Training for General Practice

Membership of appropriate Medical Organisation (MDU, MPSetc)
