A general practice surgery in Manchester is looking for a committed and enthusiastic salaried GP to cover 4 clinical sessions per week. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified GP within two years of qualification to work in an innovative and supportive environment. Responsibilities include in-person consultations, managing patient care, and contributing to team goals. Competitive annual leave and full indemnity cover are offered alongside a fixed-term contract with the possibility for permanent placement.
We are an innovative well established General Practice Surgery based in the heart of Gorton. We have a registered list of around 8,000 patients. We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic and progressive salaried GP to cover 4 clinical sessions a week at Mount Road Surgery and help us to develop the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to work in a visionary practice with great colleagues.
Four sessions per week required on Mondays and Wednesdays for a newly qualified GP within 2 years of qualification. There is currently only 4 sessions available, there may be opportunity to increase to 6 within 12-24 month period.
Please note we are NOT a Tier 2 Sponsorship Practice.
INTERVIEWS WILL BE TAKING PLACE THURSDAY 15/01/26 BETWEEN 1pm AND 7pm.
You will undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract to include:
Take accountability for the highest standards & professional decision making in relation to presenting problems.
Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate.
Develop care & treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well as wider guidance such as that from NICE.
Ensure appropriate follow up of patients.
Record clear and immediate consultation notes to agreed standards within clinical systems.
Prescribe generically whenever appropriately and in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, NICE guidance and Good Prescribing Practice (as defined by British National Formulary guidance).
Manage long term conditions and patients with complex problems.
Make autonomous clinical decisions regarding patient care.
Cover a share of the administration work including lab results and Docman when colleagues on annual leave.
Work to the highest standards and ensure that quality is through post graduate training, clinical governance, appraisal, Clinical Audit, benchmarking and peer review.
Respond in a professional manner in all communications and deal with complaints in the same manner.
Help develop Practice Plans, Policies, Procedures and Protocols.
We are a GMS contract practice with 5 Partners (4 GP Partners and Practice Nurse Partner). Our team includes 3 salaried GPs, 4 member nursing team, Pharmacist, Practice Manager and Assistant Manager, 5 member admin team and 6 member reception team. We are a fast paced surgery, committed to providing high‑quality, patient‑centred care, fostering a supportive environment for both patients and staff.
Safeguarding:
The post‑holder will follow the MHCC policy for safeguarding. A copy of the policy is available to all staff. It is stored in Legacy/Safeguarding/MHCC safeguarding policy. Our Safeguarding Leads are Dr Mansoor Choudhary, GP Lead and Victoria Bolton, Safeguarding Admin Lead. (Deputy Safeguarding GP will be the patients usual GP)
The contract is nominally for sessions of 4 hours and 10 minutes as per the BMA model contract. However, with meetings, all the relevant admin work and as your patient list increases, your workload could well build up to more than this over the year. Any difficulties with your workload would need bringing to the Partners attention.
Extra / swapped sessions
When a doctor is away for a week partners may cover by doing an extra session. The number of sessions done per year being pro‑rata with the number of sessions worked. You will not be expected to take part in this but may occasionally be asked to swop a session to help with cover or offered the chance of being paid to do a locum session if you are available.
Summary of GPC model contract and variations
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
