A local healthcare provider in Lydney seeks a salaried GP to join a friendly team for 4 to 6 sessions a week. Job description

Severnbank Surgery is a small, friendly team consisting of 2 Partners and an experienced team of Practice Nurses, HCAs, Dispensary and admin staff. We are situated in the picturesque Forest of Dean in a modern, purpose-built premises with on-site parking and a short walk from the town of Lydney.

An opportunity has arisen for a salaried GP to join ourfriendly and supportive Team, for four to 6 sessions a week, to be worked over 2-3 days.

Annual leave entitlement is pro rata and will be 6 weeksper year plus bank holidays, with a further weeks study leave. We offer acompetitive salary based on experience.

Main duties of the job

Our Practice list size is approximately 3,800 patients. We are a dispensing practice and are rated good by CQC. We are a part of the West Forest of Dean Primary Care Network.

Job responsibilities

Jobsummary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range ofhealth needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of carefor all registered and temporary patients.

Clinicalresponsibilities:

  • Inaccordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder willmake themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, includingsurgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visitingpatients at home (on occasions), checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealingwith queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers withinthe organisation
  • Assessingthe health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblems
  • Screeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developingcare plans for health in consultation with patients and in line withcurrent practice disease management protocols
  • Providingcounselling and health education
  • Admittingor discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to othercare providers as appropriate
  • Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collectingdata for audit purposes
  • Compilingand issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
  • Prescribingin accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically)whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • Ingeneral, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normalduties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primarycare.

Health & safety:

The post-holder will implement and lead on a fullrange of promotion and management of their own and others health and safetyand infection control as defined in the practice health & safety policy,the practice health & safety manual, and the practice infection control policyand published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Usingpersonal security systems within the workplace according to practiceguidelines
  • Awarenessof national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory/ contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
  • Providingadvice on the correct and safe management of the specimens process,including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and cleancontainers, storage and transport arrangements
  • Correctpersonal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correctuse of PPE by others, advising on appropriate circumstances for use byclinicians, staff and patients.
  • Managementof the full range of infection control procedures in both routine andextraordinary circumstances (e.g. pandemic or individual infectiouscircumstances)
  • Handhygiene standards for self and others
  • Managingdirectly all incidents of accidental exposure
  • Managementand advice relating to infection control and clinically based patient careprotocols, and implementation of those protocols across the practice
  • Activeobservation of current working practices across the practice in relationto infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring thatprocedures are followed and weaknesses/training needs are identified,escalating issues as appropriate to the responsible person
  • Identifyingthe risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in away that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
  • Makingeffective use of training to update knowledge and skills, and initiate andmanage the training of others across the full range of infection controland patient processes
  • Monitoringpractice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control,ensuring that proper use is made of hand-cleansing facilities, wipes etc.,and that these are sufficient to ensure a good clinical workingenvironment. Lack of facilities to be escalated as appropriate to theresponsible manager
  • Safemanagement of sharps use, storage and disposal
  • Maintenanceof own clean working environment
  • Usingappropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in atidy, clean and sterile and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation ofremedial / corrective action where needed or escalation to responsiblemanagement
  • Activelyidentifying, reporting, and correcting health and safety hazards andinfection hazards immediately when recognised
  • Keepingown work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, sterile,identifying issues and hazards/risks in relation to other work areaswithin the business, and assuming responsibility in the maintenance ofgeneral standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation(where appropriate) with responsible managers
  • Undertakingperiodic infection control training (minimum twice annually)
  • Correctwaste and instrument management, including handling, segregation, andcontainer use
  • Maintenanceof sterile environments
  • Demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting thewelfare of children.
