Job description

MillbrookMedical Centre is a large, well-established and busy training practice in theheart of Kirkby working to challenge health inequalities and deliver a widerange of services to its patient population.

We have anexciting opportunity for a 5 session Salaried GP to join our dynamic, forward thinking and friendly team and inreturn offer a fantastic support package.

The post is for5 sessions per week and in return we offer £11,961 per session, 1 PD in every9, monthly supervision and daily Supervising GP support as well as MedicashHealth Cash Plan and free Employee Assistance Programme.

Our Salaried GP's undertake a mixture of face to face and remote clinics as well as home visits and Supervising GP duties (on a rotational basis).

Appointments are a mixture of same day and pre-bookable all of which are triaged by our trained Care Navigators with Lead GP oversight. You will also be supported by a team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technician, Health Care Assistants and Phlebotomist as well as staff employed via the ARRS scheme.

Main duties of the job

To support the Practice to continue to embed effective risk managementprocesses and systems to enable quality improvement and ensure learning fromserious incidents and complaints.

To undertake analysis of themes and trends from incidents, complaints,audits etc.

Collaborate onimproving the quality of health care, responding to local and national policyinitiatives as appropriate.

Ensure high visibility and accessibility for staff, patients and theirfamilies to and be proactive in identifying and help to resolve specific orrecurrent concerns.

Be aware of and work in line with our Safeguarding Adults and Children'sprocedures.

To be competent in the management of under 18year olds and vulnerable adults working within Fraser Guidelines and mentalcapacity assessments and liaising with the multi-disciplinary team and CCS andlocal safeguarding teams/services as appropriate.

Our Practice is led by 3 experienced GP Partners and incorporates 51 directly employed staff including GP's, ANP's, PN's, Pharmacists, HCA's, Phlebotomist, 5 strong management team and 23 strong admin team.

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities core work

Thepost holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties toprovide best patient care.

Thiswill involve a maximum of nine clinical and one professional developmentsession pro rata.

Thepost holder will undertake Supervising GP duties in accordance with therota. Details of specificresponsibilities related to this area are in the Supervising GP policy. The post holder will be required to be onsite from 8am to 6.30pm when on this duty.

Otherclinical sessions will include a mixture of face to face and telephone pre-bookableappointments, general follow up appointments and depression/mental healthfollow up slots. The post holder willfulfil these duties in accordance with relevant policies.

Thepost holder will be required to undertake Enhanced Access duties in accordancewith the rota. This will require thepost holder to be on site from 11am to 8pm when on this duty.

Thepost holder will work as part of a team at Millbrook, helping as required withadministration tasks, home visits and dealing with acute and repeatprescription requests.

Personaldevelopment and Docman sessions will take place in practice. This is so the GP s able to attend practicemeetings before or after these sessions.It is also important they are present in the rare case that they mightneed to cover clinical work (for example if a colleague is unwell).

Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whetherself-referred or referred from other health care workers within theorganisation.

Assessingthe health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblems.

Screeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Developingcare plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with currentpractice disease management protocols.

Providingcounselling and health education.

Admittingor discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other careproviders as appropriate.

Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collectingdata for audit purposes.

Compilingand issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoidinghand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

Prescribingin accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) wheneverthis is clinically appropriate.

Ingeneral, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal dutiesand responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation

Attendanceat Millbrook meetings within working hours.

Leadthe MDT in some clinical or contractual areas.This will be with support from a GP Partner and in a mutually agreedarea. This may involve chairing relevantmeetings, developing policies within that area, audit and otheractivities. The post holder will haveaccountability for outcomes within this area.This could involve, for example, palliative care, Doctor training,safeguarding, NICE guidance etc.

Awarenessof and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.gprescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

Acommitment to life long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based bestpractice.

Contributingto evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.

Contributingto the development of computer-based patient records.

Contributingto the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data.

Health and safety

The postholder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and management oftheir own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in thepractice health and safety policy, the practice health and safety manual andthe practice infection control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limitedto):

Usingpersonal security systems within the workplace according to practiceguidelines.

Awarenessof national standards of infection control and cleanliness andregulatory/contractual/professional requirements, and good practice guidelines.

Providingadvice on the correct and safe management of the specimens process, includingcollection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storageand transport arrangements.

Correctpersonal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use ofPPE by others, advising on appropriate circumstances for use by clinicians,staff and patients.

Managementof the full range of infection control procedures in both routine andextraordinary circumstances (e.g pandemic or individual infectioncircumstances).

Managingdirectly all incidents of accidental exposure.

Monitoringpractice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuringthat proper use is made of hand-cleansing facilities wipes etc, and that theseare sufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack of facilities to be escalated asappropriate to the responsible manager.

Safemanagement of sharps use, storage and disposal.

Maintenanceof own clean working environment.

Usingappropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy,clean and sterile and safe way free from hazards. Initiation of remedial/corrective actionwhere needed or escalation to responsible management.

Activelyidentifying, reporting and correcting health and safety hazards and infectionhazards immediately when recognised.

Keepingown work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, sterile, identifyingissues and hazards/risks in relation to other work areas within the business,and assuming responsibility in the maintenance of general standards ofcleanliness across the business in consultation (where appropriate) withresponsible managers.

Undertakingperiodic infection control training (minimum twice annually).

Correctwaste and instrument management, including handling, segregation and containeruse.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Certificate of MRCGP.
  • Registered GP with the GMC (included on the GP Register).
  • Included on the GP Performer's List.
  • Possess the right to work in the UK.
  • Certificate of satisfactory immune status i.e Hep B and other relevant viruses.
  • FRSH LoC SDI.
Experience
  • Current general practice experience with up to date GMC appraisal/revalidation.
  • Experience of service development.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience of monitoring, collating and advising on all aspects of quality, patient safety and risk management.
  • Ability to relate well to challenging patients, carers, relatives and staff.
