Job summary

Organon in Cramlington, Northumberland, seeks a SHE Specialist focused on Occupational Hygiene to join a multidisciplinary team supporting the site’s Safety, Health & Environment programmes. You will identify and control workplace health hazards across chemical, physical and biological agents, advising on exposure assessment and control measures.

Qualifications

• BOHS Certificate of Competence in Occupational Hygiene or equivalent.
• NEBOSH General Certificate (Desirable).
• Demonstrable relevant professional experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to identify potential Health & Safety risks.
• Thorough understanding of local and regional legislation regarding workplace Health & Safety.

Responsibilities

• Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of site SHE programmes, with a focus on occupational health risk management.
• Conduct workplace assessments to identify and evaluate employee exposure to chemical, physical and ergonomic hazards.
• Undertake measurements for chemical agents, noise, vibration, thermal environment and non-ionising radiation and interpret results with respect to established criteria.
• Plan and organise surveys, develop sampling strategies in accordance with established guidance and protocols.
• Identify reasonably practicable control measures for non-complex situations.
• Use of qualitative and quantitative assessment methods for assessing exposures.
• Ensure reports are documented and communicated to key stakeholders.
• Evaluate risk and any need for action to prevent or reduce exposures
• Provide technical guidance on the identification, assessment and control of workplace health and safety risks to ensure compliance with company standards and legislative requirements.
• Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in control strategies and working with key stakeholders to enhance the end user’s knowledge and understanding of risk.

The role is responsible for supporting the site’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) programmes, with a significant focus on Occupational Hygiene. This position provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and controlling workplace health risks, while also contributing to wider SHE initiatives, compliance activities and continuous improvement programmes. The role supports the implementation of Company Standards and UK legislation, ensuring effective management of occupational health risk through exposure assessment, risk evaluation and the application of suitable control measures.

This role will also support business projects on the design concepts for engineering controls and support commissioning activities and verification of effective controls where required.
