Responsibilities

• Support the generation and maintenance of safety requirements and documentation.
• Assist in developing and managing safety artefacts and safety cases for equipment and subsystems.
• Identify, collect, analyse, and evaluate technical safety data to support decisions.
• Contribute to risk management activities across projects and programmes.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to capture and implement safety requirements.
• Support hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation activities.
• Assist with safety testing, verification, validation, and evaluation activities.
• Address safety considerations across through-life support, maintenance and operation.
• Contribute to technical assurance activities within safety discipline.
• Support equipment disposal and decommissioning from a safety perspective.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to support a high-profile defence programme within a highly regulated environment. The successful candidate will contribute to safety engineering activities across the project lifecycle, supporting safety assurance, hazard analysis, technical risk management, and the development of safety documentation to ensure safe and compliant project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the generation and maintenance of technical safety requirements and associated documentation.
• Assist in the development, review, and management of safety artefacts and safety cases for equipment and subsystems.
• Identify, collect, analyse, and evaluate technical safety data to support project decision-making.
• Contribute to technical risk management activities across projects and programmes.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and technical specialists to ensure safety requirements are effectively captured and implemented.
• Support hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation activities.
• Assist with system safety testing, verification, validation, and evaluation activities.
• Support safety considerations relating to through-life support, modifications, maintenance, and operational use of equipment.
• Contribute to technical assurance activities within your area of expertise.
• Support equipment disposal and decommissioning activities from a safety perspective.
• Prepare technical recommendations and reports relating to safety engineering matters.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation, standards, policies, and engineering practices.
• Active SC Clearance.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
• Experience supporting safety engineering activities within regulated engineering environments.
• Knowledge of safety case development and safety assurance processes.
• Understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation methodologies.
• Experience producing and reviewing technical safety documentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering and project teams.

Preferred Experience

• Defence or MOD programme experience.
• Experience working with safety cases and safety artefacts.
• Technical assurance and risk management experience.
• Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering background.
• Familiarity with equipment lifecycle activities, including modification, support, and disposal.
• Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.
