A leading air navigation service provider based in the UK is looking for an individual to support safety assurance for operational changes. The role includes generating safety plans and preparing documentation to ensure compliance with safety policies. Applicants should have a Higher National Certificate in a STEM or assurance-related field. The position encourages collaboration across various departments and allows for flexible working arrangements. A passion for safety is essential.
This position enables compliance with the NATS Safety Policy by supporting the provision of Safety Assurance for changes to NATS Operational Services, such that the accountable roles have the required confidence that the change can be implemented and operated safely. Other duties include, under the guidance of the Safety & Assurance manager, supporting the generation and preparation of the Safety & Assurance plans, arguments, and collating the evidence for the Change Assurance documentation covering the Safety Management and Business Continuity / Service Resilience assurance and risks. This includes contributions from Systems / Software Assurance, Human Factors and Cyber Security, resulting in changes being implemented with the required safety assurance. Supports the facilitation of workshops to identify safety hazards and the elicitation of mitigating, functional and non‑functional requirements that together form the safety & assurance requirements for a project change. Adopt a pro‑active approach to ensure that any issues affecting the safety, business continuity, human performance and cyber security of NATS services or its interfaces are identified and resolved. The job holder may be required to co‑ordinate and interface with multiple functional areas and groups within NATS and external to NATS, including (but not limited to):
Autonomy works under general direction. Usually receives specific instructions and has work reviewed at frequent milestones. Identifies and escalates safety concerns during production of assurance evidence required to support a project delivery.
Job scope includes assurance documentation (both those for existing operations and new project change assurance) including operational safety and technical assurance documents. These are key to enabling NATS and regulatory acceptance and approvals to be achieved.
The job holder’s responsibility is to support the production of the assurance documents required to achieve these goals; the scope of the job encompasses: a) application of the relevant Safety Management Procedures (specifically SAF004, SAF005, SAF006, SAF007 and SAF010) and b) compliance with the appropriate NATS Management System (NMS)/Business Management System (BMS) processes.
The job holder is also expected to support the continuous improvement of safety and assurance processes by providing suggestions/ideas to the appropriate Business Process Expert (BPE)/Business Process Owner (BPO).
The job holder is expected to hold, as a minimum, a Higher National Certificate/Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) in a STEM or assurance‑related discipline.
The ability to communicate difficult technical and/or operational concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
A passion for the Safety or Air Traffic Management and a willingness to learn, develop and take on different tasks under the guidance of their line manager.
